It was a successful first day of school for our Trinity Elementary students!

Award for NRHS Musical! Innovation pays off! New Rochelle High School has been honored by the New York State School Boards Association’s Champions of Change program for last spring’s musical, "Is There Life After High School?" Due to COVID-19 precautions, students and staff could not put on the show as they usually do, with in-person rehearsals and performances. However, the show must go on, and drama teacher Anthony Stirpe and the determined high school students created a virtual show by recording and editing on Apple products such as iPhones and Macintosh computers. Apple gave international exposure to the presentation through its Apple Newsroom. The association presented a banner in recognition of the production’s creativity during the New Rochelle Board of Education meeting Thursday. CSDNR Family, We know the news about the severity of damage to NRHS is deeply unsettling for our students, families, and staff. Mr. Raymond is at the high school today (Saturday, Sept. 4) with the crews that are assessing the extent of damage and beginning the work of remediation. There will be a virtual Town Hall on Wednesday, September 8th at 7:30 PM to answer questions and share all we know to date about the condition of the school and plans for our students and staff. BREAKING NEWS: Flood Damage from Storm Impacts Opening of Two Schools... The opening of the New Rochelle High School building will be delayed, and students will start the year in remote learning. In addition, Isaac E. Young Middle School will open its building on Monday, Sept. 13, a school day later than planned. Our team is hard at work preparing for the first day of school next week, including getting our new staff and faculty up to speed at their orientation!

We can’t wait to see our students again! Superintendent Jonathan Raymond and New Rochelle High School Principal Dagoberto Artiles welcomed our high school students back as they picked up their Chromebooks and IDs before the new year.

New Rochelle Public Library will be resuming its expanded hours in September. Both the Main Library and the Huguenot Children’s Library will be closed Saturday, September 4th through Monday, September 6th in observance of Labor Day. Click the flyer for more information on updated library hours!

Our Department of Pupil Services has been hard at work supporting the families impacted by a recent fire. Pictured are donations for George M Davis Elementary School families, who also received $2,000 in gift cards! Thank you for your generous donations. The Department is also working with transportation to coordinate pickup for displaced students.

City School District of New Rochelle Superintendent Jonathan Raymond helped pack more than 400 bags of supplies for students on Saturday. The community event was hosted by Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle.

The school year is coming upon us quickly, but great work already is taking place! Behind the scenes, our dedicated custodians at George M Davis Elementary School and across our District are helping prep wonderful and safe environments for students, teachers and staff! They are the change we want to see and need – and their efforts are deeply appreciated!

New Superintendent Jonathan Raymond, as part of his “Listening and Learning Tour,” has been immersing himself into our schools – including meeting with each school’s principal. Columbus Elementary School Principal Michael Galland provided a tour this week and pointed out this example of Columbus students’ inspiring, creative artwork!
