Information for Voters: School Budget and Board of Education Election

The Annual School Election and Budget Vote of the City School District of the City of New Rochelle and the Annual Library Election and Budget Vote of the New Rochelle Public Library will be held Tuesday, May 16, 2023, between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m.

Voters will:

  • Elect two New Rochelle Board of Education members who will serve terms dates - July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2028 and May 16, 2023 through June 30, 2027

  • Vote on whether to adopt the 2023-2024 school district budget approved by the New Rochelle Board of Education.

  • Vote on whether to adopt the 2023-2024 New Rochelle Public Library Budget.

The City School District is divided into School Election Districts (SED) at which voting will take place. GED stands for General Election Districts.

First, Be Eligible to Vote

Those choosing to vote should be registered with the School District’s Board of Registration by May 3rd or have voted in a school election within the past four years OR be registered with the Westchester County Board of Elections to vote in general elections. To verify your registration visit the Voter Information Portal.

Second, Verify Qualifications for Registration if Needed

  • Must be a citizen of the United States

  • Must be a resident of the School District for at least 30 days preceding the election

  • Must be at least 18 years old by May 16, 2023

Fourth, Consider Completing an Absentee Ballot Application

An Absentee Ballot application may only be used for school district elections by qualified voters who reside in a school district that provides for personal registration of voters. If the application requests the absentee ballot be mailed, the application must be received by the district clerk not later than seven days before the election for which the absentee ballot is sought. Otherwise, the application may be personally delivered to the district clerk not later than the day before the election. Applications may not be submitted more than 30 days prior to the election. If you are qualified for absentee voting and issued an absentee ballot, the ballot itself must be received by the school district clerk by 5 p.m. on the day of the election in order to be canvassed.

Nominating petitions are due by Wednesday, April 26, 2023 and should be filed with Office of the Clerk from 9am to 5pm (no appointment necessary).
