Some Huguenot sports teams have been on an extended recess due to COVID, but they’re returning for action!

Congratulations to the boys and girls varsity basketball teams on their first victories of 2022. They defeated Spring Valley and Fox Lane respectively last week.

Our boys and girls indoor track teams competed in the league championships at the Armory on Thursday. The girls extended their streak of league championships to 10. Highlights for the girls were:

  • Genesis Bratcher won the Shot Put (22' 10")and earned second place in the Weight Throw (29' 6").
  • The 800 Relay Team of Kylie Griffith, Valentina Wallin, Eko Dodd-Brown and Kaela Godfrey took first with a time of 1:51.44.

The boys team took second place. Leading the way were:

  • Giovanni Wellington, who won the Weight Throw with a distance of 44' 9". That places him third in Westchester County.
  • Chris Maple-Ellis took 2nd place in the Long Jump with a distance of 19' 10".
  • The 4 x 200M Relay Team of Kaique Braga, Jabari Clarke, George Aine, and Miles Renwick-Archibold took second place.

Congratulations as well to our high school hockey team, which defeated Byram Hills Wednesday, 13-4. Watch highlights in this video.

That win wasn’t the only highlight: New York Rangers hockey hero Stephane Matteau (at left in group photo and at center in second photo) visited the team during practice, offering inspiring stories and helping with drills. In all, it was a memorable night for our skaters and their coaches.
