District Awards

 

2006

The School District won the grand prize for the CILA (Children’s International Language Academy) program at Trinity and Ward Elementary Schools, in the American School Board Journal’s 2006 Magna Awards program.

New Rochelle High School ranks on Newsweek’s list of top high schools in the nation.

The New York State Education Department designated two elementary schools in New Rochelle as high performing schools based on 2003-04 standardized tests: George M. Davis Jr. and William B. Ward Elementary Schools.

NRHS Varsity Girls Basketball team is the school’s first to compete in the NYS Section 1 Class AA semi-finals, earning the first runner-up prize in their division. The Cheerleading team placed fifth in the nation, JV placed sixth, and the middle school team placed seventh at the Universal Cheerleading Association National HS Cheerleading Championships. A New Rochelle High School senior won two titles in state championships in track, and competed on the national level in several track events.

2005

New Rochelle High School ranks in the Newsweek top high schools in the nation on a list compiled by Jay Mathews.

New Rochelle is named one of the “Best 100 Communities for Music Education” in the nation by the American Music Conference. A NRHS student was a semi-finalist in the highly competitive 2005 Intel Science Talent Search.

NRHS Varsity Football and Basketball teams were NYS Section AA finalists, and the Cheerleading team held second place in the nation at the Universal Cheerleading Association National HS Cheerleading Championships. A New Rochelle High School student set a Section 1 track record, and is the 60-meter national champion.

2004

A New Rochelle High School student was a semi-finalist in the 2004 U.S. Physics Team search, and one of 12 national finalists for the National Wendy’s High School Heisman Award. The NRHS Varsity Cheerleading team placed second in the nation at the Universal Cheerleading Assoc. National HS Cheerleading Championships. Two New Rochelle High School Students were Intel Science semi-finalists.

2003

NRHS Varsity Football team won NY State Football Class AA Football Championship.
Clifford Levy, Class of ’85, wins Pulitzer Prize for Investigative Reporting. Anna Weiss, Class of ’97, named Rhodes Scholar.

Three NRHS students were named Intel semi-finalists in 2003, and one student advanced to Finalist status.

New Rochelle students of music perform a benefit concert for the New Rochelle Fund for Educational Excellence at Lincoln Center.

2002

2000

New Rochelle High School ranks in the top 2% of high schools in the nation on a revised list compiled by Jay Mathews for Newsweek.

Isaac E. Young Middle School is the only school in NYS to receive the Magna Award from The American School Board Journal, recognizing outstanding programs. A New Rochelle High School student is named a Intel Science semi-finalist.

1999

New Rochelle students of music perform a benefit concert for the New Rochelle Fund for Educational Excellence with actor Ossie Davis at Carnegie Hall. A New Rochelle High School student is named a Intel Science semi-finalist.

1998

Isaac E. Young Middle School is the only secondary school in Westchester to be named a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in 1998 by the U.S. Department of Education.

1997

The New Rochelle School District’s Speech Language and Hearing Department is one of only three school districts to receive national accreditation by the American Speech Language and Hearing Association.

A New Rochelle High School student is named a Intel Science semi-finalist.

1996

Isaac E. Young Middle School is recommended by NYS Education Department for Blue Ribbon School of Excellence national recognition program.

New Rochelle High School earns the National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence distinction from the U.S. Department of Education. NRHS received its first blue ribbon status in 1984. Harvard University accepts six seniors.

1994

New Rochelle High School is one of the top schools of Westinghouse Scholarship award winners in the nation, listed in The Young Scientists by J. Berger, published by Addison Wesley Publishing Company.

Daniel Webster Magnet Elementary School wins in the National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence recognition program of the U.S. Department of Education.

1993

Daniel Webster Magnet Elementary School is recommended by NYS Education Department for Blue Ribbon School of Excellence national program.

U.S. Secretary of Education Richard Riley visits New Rochelle High School, recognizing the district for excellence and diversity.
